We Are The Drowned

Posted by on August 4, 2013

We are the drowned, in our temples of stone
Seeking refuge together from our dark little homes
We are the drowned, all silent and cool
Playing the by the fire, by the glass, by the rules

We are the drowned, full of endless intent
Planting our feet in distillers cement
Forever facing our twisted reflections
Emptying our pockets to the landlords discretion

Yes, we are the drowned, dispirited and wet
Forever in servitude to our deepest regrets
In voluntary enslavement to the river of gold
Getting loaded, getting rowdy, getting pregnant, getting old

And we are the lonely, in lush crowds of one
Silhouetted in mono, our backs to sun
We are the lonely, forever afraid
That into that darkness, we one day will fade

And we are the angry, fists raised to the stars
And we gather in circles, in pubs and in bars,
Endlessly lost and railing to be found
But we are the lonely, the lost, and the drowned.

Yes we are the drowned, we are the drowned
Only concerned with where to find the next round
See you in the next life, if you wanna stick around
But we’re following the river now,
We are the drowned.
